Description
Upper Gallery: Harry Hughes Williams Harry Hughes Williams won a scholarship to the Royal College in London in 1914. There he won a scholarship to travel through Europe but because of the war he could not take advantage of it. He returned to Anglesey and devoted himself to living and working as an artist. They were hard times for him, painting materials were expensive. Often he painted his pictures on pieces of pulled-apart wooden boxes yet his produce was substantial. His pictures were first shown at the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1918 and he became a full member in 1938. Lower Gallery: Keith Bowen 'A Figure in the Landscape' Elements from the landscape that have become synonymous with Keith Bowen's work: sheepfolds, thorn trees, rocks, walls, gates and tracks are now inhabited by and juxtaposed with the solitary human figure.
